BUYER BEWARE. Each time Philips sent me a new handset. The handset was no longer registered to the base unit and it was impossible to unregister or re-register no matter what was tried (new batteries, reset,.). Whether this is related to a manufacturing or component defect that has now been corrected is unknown. Over the course of 2 years all three handsets failed for same reason at one point in time.
Philips would not comment on the serial nature of my defects. Worked with Philips customer service to try and restore registration but was not possible. 1st handset failed after about 6 months, 2nd failed after about 18 months and third after 24 months. Purchased the SE7452B Base Station (w additional handset) and I also bought a 3rd separate SE7450 handset back in Nov 2007. Each time the problem was the same.
So far none of the new handsets have failed but there is definitely a serial defect with this model.
But if at any point and time would like or think you may get into a 1hr+ converstaion then get something else. Worst phones ive ever had as far as battery life goes. I got these phones about 1 1/2yrs ago i ended up giving them away. They looked good had a lot of great features but the one thing i couldnt get around was i could pull a handset off the base after a 12hr chrg session and within 45mins it would be beeping at me that it was dying and by 50mins of stright talking it was dead. So if you dont hold long conversations and/or dont care about these phones then they are for you.
The answering machine part of the phone system has been wonderful however. Again, very nice lookiing phones, however not terribly useful as a phone system, and we will be looking to purchase another set down the road. The second phone does not ring 3/4 of the time and so it is useless to us having it in the second location and at times, that second phone will not dial out either. However the phone does not stay charged for a length of time that you would expect. Call display is horrible - more times than not, we simply get "new" to tell us that it may be a new number to the home - however we'd like to see the actual number and/or name and after two years, we are still getting this display for numbers that are not new to the home. We've had this phone for two years now and we just cannot recommend this to anyone - right from the start we questionned the quality of this phone. The sound is good overall, particularly for someone like myself who is hearing impaired. We likely should have returned the phones early on, however we thought that we'd continue to try and make the phones work for us and perhaps we needed to adjust to a new system.
If you try to transfer to the other phone, it will DIE before you finish. I can't even go outside with this phone without disrupting or losing the call. 5-NO INDICATOR of PHONE IN USE. My Uniden phones both last weeks longer then these. 7-No range.
I wish I had read these reviews first and would have run away from this phone.Pros for me 1-Decent sound quality 2-Speaker phone quality 3-Each handset can be named so you know where they belong.4-Doesn't mess up my wireless router.Cons 1-BATTERY LIFE is NOWHERE near what they state. The response from Philips service is "batteries are not covered by our warranty" even though the very first claim on the box is "Up to 100% greater battery life (12 hours talk time)." This is an utter fabrication from my experience with this product, and their Customer Service offered no Customer Service.2-Annoying flashing red light unless you manually pick up handset and manually page through the caller ID to see who called.3-Unable to pick up another handset if the low battery tone sounds. Buy this phone if you want to "accidently" hang up on your mother-in law.4-Tone delay when dialing, about 1/2 second after you push the button the tone sounds. it has nowhere near the range my 900MHz phones have, and this is supposed to be newer technology. I purchased this base and 2 handsets to replace my Uniden 900MHz phones that I've used for 4 years that are getting a little ratty.
After a few months of limited use, both phones only have about 8 - 10 minutes of talk time, and less then 4hrs worth of standby. 6-Beeps for everything.
I didn't find this to be the case. The speaker phone function is ordinary.
I find it very useful if I'm in another room or am cooking or something to know without looking at the phone itself if it's a call I have to answer at that moment or someone I can call back in a minute or two. Not bad, but nothing that justifies the higher price.
It's a pretty and streamlined phone, but ringtones are limited, it is too many steps to add numbers to the phonebook, and it overall is just of average quality. Especially the feature of a caller ID announcement.
I bought this phone because it boasted of increased sound clarity. A couple of friends thought the voice sounded a little "echo-y" on their end.
The phone I switched to is a Panasonic, and it's a better phone in my opinion at a lower price.
